Figure 9 demonstrates that the emergence of the HDZ-1990 aided the demise of the HDZ-BiH while neither of the parties was able to increase their number of seats in 2010. ← 149 | 150 →

4.4.2.3 CROATIAN RADICAL PARTY-BIH (HSP-BIH)

Another nationalist party that benefited from the HDZ-BiH demise was the HSP-BiH (“Hrvatska Stranka Prava”). This party has a long tradition in Yugoslavian politics and was a major opposition party in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Its BiH branch was founded in 1991 by Blaž Kraljević, the commander of the paramilitary Croatian Defense Forces (HOS). Like the HVO, their members displayed an affinity to Ustaša symbolism but unlike Boban and the HVO, they advocated the continuation of the Croat-Bosniak alliance and opposed the idea of a more or less secret agreement with Bosnian Serb leaders. This opposition triggered conflict between the HSP and the HDZ, and therefore between HVO and HOS. Kraljević was assassinated in August 1992. Since then, the party has only been of marginal relevance; in post-war BiH it was able to obtain a seat only once in the Parliamentary Assembly (2006–2010).
